Official Philippine Army Press Release

Press Release No. 03-070

Date Released: 1 February 2010

Army's 4 ACEs Pick Up Pace

The Philippine Army's four ACEs for its thrust this year - the Army-s Concern for the Environment, Army's Concern for Engineering, Army's Combat Excellence, and Advocacy for Credible Elections - has gained significant headway in its first month of implementation.

In contribution to the government's overall effort of addressing climate change, the Philippine Army has participated in all endeavors geared towards protecting the environment - from tree planting activities to solid waste management within camps to partnership with individuals and entities that advocates for the preservation of the environment.

The Philippine Army has also delivered road and infrastructure projects as a result of an enhanced engineering capability.

Since war fighting remains to be the Philippine Army's core competency, intensified tactical offensives throughout the country resulted to almost 18 enemies killed, including the top NPA leader in Bulacan; the capture of NPA leader Zaldy Canete alias Jinggoy, a notorious terrorist leader responsible for many atrocities against the people; and the recovery of various high-powered firearms, which weakened considerably the operational capability of the rebels. Community development programs and nation-building activities, on the other hand, made possible the surrender of 13 NPA rebels.

As regards the Army's Advocacy for Credible Elections, Lt Gen Bangit, in all his field visits, reminded soldiers not to participate in any partisan politics, except to exercise the right of suffrage, as he vowed to quell any armed group that would disturb the conduct of peaceful elections.

Armed with these four ACEs, the Philippine Army is confident that it can help bring lasting peace and development in the country. #
