NPA rebel killed in Surigao encounter
A New People's Army rebel was killed in an encounter with the Philippine
Army troops in Surigao del Sur this morning.
Reports reaching the Philippine Army headquarters from field unit
disclosed that elements of the 36th Infantry Battalion encountered more
or less five NPA rebels in Brgy Bolhoon, San Miguel, Surigao del Sur at
about 10:15 this morning. The firefight resulted to one enemy killed and
the recovery of one M16 rifle.
There was no reported fatality from the government side. Troops are
still scouring the area to protect the residents from possible NPA
atrocities.
Four months before the June 2010 deadline, the Philippine Army continues
to deliver wins for the AFP in this final phase of anti-insurgency
campaign. The Philippine Army never wavers in its commitment to bring
lasting peace and sustainable progress for the Filipino people. #
