Army Participates in 24th EDSA People Power Anniversary
FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila - The Armed Forces of the Philippines
played a very crucial role in the fight for freedom and democracy during
the People Power Revolution 24 years ago. The nationalism that the
soldiers exemplified continues to be a source of inspiration to the
soldiers of today in protecting the very freedom and independence that
they, together with the whole Filipino nation, have fought for.
Today, the Philippine Army, together with the whole AFP, commemorates
the 24th Anniversary of the EDSA People Power Revolution which kicked
off with a Wreath-Laying Ceremony at the Libingan ng mga Bayani in Fort
Bonifacio, Metro Manila. No less than the Secretary of National Defense,
Norberto B Gonzales graced the event. Among those present were EDSA
People Power Commission (EPPC) Chair and Executive Secretary Eduardo R
Ermita, AFP Chief Gen Victor S Ibrado, Army Chief Lt Gen Delfin N Bangit,
EPPC Co-Chairman Christopher L Carrion, Taguig City Mayor Sigfrido R
Tinga, and representatives from the PNP and the other major service
units.
A Medical Mission immediately followed spearheaded by the AFP, PNP, EPPC
and the DOH at the Philippine Army Officers Ladies Foundation School.
The Wreath-laying ceremony was the first of the week-long activities in
celebration of the 1986 EDSA People Power Revolution. With the theme, "Diwa
ng Edsa, Gabay sa Ating Kinabukasan," the EPPC has prepared various
activities to be concluded with a People's Day on February 25. #
