Excited kids go back to school with newly REfurbished classrooms
Once again, the Philippine Army has shown its commitment to serve the
country better, the Filipino youth, in particular, through the conduct
of Department of Education's Brigada Eskuwela.
Brigada Eskuwela is a five-day activity, which started on May 24 and
ended on May 28. This was initiated by the Department of Education, in
close coordination with the Department of Education, Philippine Army,
Local Government Units, Philippine National Police, religious sectors,
barangay officials, teachers and parents to prepare schools for the
start of classes. This mobilized the Army personnel to conduct repairs,
maintenance work, renovation, repainting, and cleaning of different
public secondary and elementary schools nationwide.
Some of the areas that benefited from this program are the Valeriano E
Fugoso Memorial School in Boystown Compound in Parang Marikina and the
Signal Village National High School in Taguig City. This effort was also
complemented by various Army units nationwide particularly in the 10th
Infantry Division in Compostela Valley.
Also, in Negros Occidental, the members of the Army's 62nd Infantry
Battalion under Lt. Col. Alberto C. Desoyo has successfully facilitated
the five-day renovation, repainting, and cleaning of almost 25 public
schools in the cities of Cadiz, Sagay, and San Carlos and in the
Municipalities of Toboso and Calatrava.
In Tarlac, a two-day Brigada Eskuwela was also conducted by the Army's
Light Armor Division (LAD) with Maj. Judiel Socal, Deputy for
Civil-Military Operations, LAD as the officer-in-charge. Sergeant
Richard Versoza of the Engineer Combat Company of LAD led the repair of
broken chairs, blackboards, and other school equipment.
Furthermore, the Army's 9th Infantry Division was also able to repair
classrooms, particularly chairs, tables, and blackboards, repainted
roofs, and cleaned a total of 159 public schools from May 24 to 27 in
the whole Albay Province.
Brigada Eskuwela is a modern-day version of the Filipino's Bayanihan
Spirit – the tradition of volunteerism, cooperation, communal unity or
effort to achieve a particular cause. Because of this program, DepEd was
able to save P9 billion from their budget.
The Philippine Army hopes that with this program, students are more
encouraged to attend schools to broaden opportunities for them to
achieve their full potentials. These students are our future leaders and
we must do our share in their development by helping build a better and
safe place for them to learn and prepare for life. #
