ARMY GIVES BLOOD, SAVES LIVES

In commemoration of the Blood Donors' Month, which is celebrated annually during the month of July, the Philippine Army conducted a bloodletting activity dubbed as "Dugo ng Sundalo Iaalay para sa Sambayanang Pilipino" at the Headquarters Philippine Army in Fort Bonifacio Metro Manila this morning. Gracing the event as keynote speaker is Philippine Red Cross Chairman, Hon Richard J Gordon.

A total of 300 Army personnel from the different units and offices within the Headquarters Philippine Army donated blood, with the Philippine Red Cross providing all the materials and equipment necessary for the bloodletting activity.

Speaking in front of Army officers, enlisted personnel and civilian employees, Hon Gordon lauded the soldiers for working above and beyond the call of duty. "Ang pagsusundalo ay hindi isang paghahanap-buhay, kundi isang pagbibigay buhay," he said. He also encouraged linkage between the Philippine Army and the Philippine Red Cross, an effective partnership that would translate to better services for the Filipino people.

The Philippine Army through its subordinate units participates in the National Voluntary Blood Services Program by conducting two bloodletting activities per year. This activity inculcates among the soldiers the spirit of volunteerism through blood donation. Through this, the Philippine Army can help save lives by ensuring that there would be a ready supply of blood, not just for Army personnel and dependents, but for others who are in need.

This bloodletting activity, just like the other humanitarian activities initiated by the Philippine Army, is a fulfillment of its commitment to serve the Filipino people better.

"The Army's true message is service -  service to its fellowmen," concluded Hon Gordon. #
