ARESCOM CONCLUDES JOINT ROTC SUMMER CAMP TRAINING
Recognizing the importance of the Reserve Officers
Training Corps (ROTC) in the AFP as they prepare young men and women for
military leadership, the Army Reserve Command recently opened the Joint
ROTC Summer Camp Training (JRSCT) in Camp Riego de Dios Tanza, Cavite
which concluded yesterday (May 23) with Army Chief Lt Gen Reynaldo B
Mapagu as the guest of honor and speaker.
A total of 349 cadets, 196 of which are male and 153 are female, from
the National Capital Region Community Defense Group (NCRRCDG) and the
4th Regional Defense Group (4RCDG) successfully completed the 28-day
training.
Speaking before the 349 graduates, Lt Gen Mapagu congratulated the
graduating class and expressed his happiness over the active
participation and involvement of ROTC cadets in the summer camp.
"This definitely manifests your wholehearted desire to prepare
yourselves to serve our country in various capacities. By being present
here, I see in all of you the dynamic spirit of volunteerism and
patriotism that are not easy to find in today’s generation," Lt Gen
Mapagu said.
He likewise commended the organizers of the event, ARESCOM Commander
BGen Joel Ibanez and the Commandant of the Army Training Center Col
Kingsley Dupitas, as well as the training staff of the JRSCT Class
01-2010 for their "dedication and commitment to train and develop these
cadets on the basic military knowledge as well as significant
understanding and appreciation of the Army core values and
competencies."
One of the highlights of the event is the exhibition of the Philippine
Army's All-women silent drill company known as the "Enlisted Women (EW)
Silent Drillers". They delivered a remarkable performance which drew
applause and appreciation from the audience, including the parents,
friends and relatives of the graduating students and other civilian
visitors.
The guests were likewise impressed on the physical and mental
transformation of the cadets who successfully hurdled the five-week
training conducted by ARESCOM Training Center. Cdt Richard R Intia
graduated top of the class, followed by Cadettes Jennifer M Valdez and
Joanne C Hernandez. Cdt Jan Erwin B Solidad, on the other hand, obtained
the highest rating in Physical Fitness among male students while Cdte Ma
Carlota L Ilagan among female students.
ROTC cadets who took part in the JRSCT were able to acquire first-hand
military knowledge which would be useful when they finally decide to
become members of the regular force. Also, as graduates of the JRSCT,
the cadets were able to strengthen the camaraderie, discipline, and
esprit de corps among their fellow ROTC cadets.
Meanwhile, in its effort to motivate and recruit intelligent and
responsible students with high leadership potentials to join the ROTC’s
Corps of Cadet Officers, the Philippine Army grants incentives in the
form of cash, subsistence allowance, and Combat Clothing and Individual
Equipment (CCIEs) among others to qualified Advance ROTC Cadets.
The Philippine Army continues to recognize the crucial role of the ROTC
cadets as members of the reserve force. The Army reservists, ROTC cadets
included, remain to be a valuable force to the Army organization
rendering services on voluntary basis thereby exemplifying true service
to the Filipino people. #
