DEFENSE SEC TO GRACE AFP'S NATIONAL HEROES DAY COMMEMORATION

Department of National Defense Secretary, Hon Voltaire T Gazmin is expected to grace the Commemoration of the National Heroes Day, as the Guest of Honor and Speaker, on August 29 at the Libingan ng mga Bayani (LNMB) in Fort Andres Bonifacio, Metro Manila.

High-ranking officers of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) will attend the ceremony in honor of all the heroes - both celebrated and unsung - who offered their lives for the country's freedom. The Chief of Staff AFP, Lt Gen Ricardo David, shall be the military host with the Major Service Commanders as co-hosts. Army Chief MGEN Arturo B Ortiz will lead the contingent of the Philippine Army in this historic activity.

Meanwhile, the different units of the Philippine Army shall provide the needed ceremonial elements and required support and security in the location. A commemorative program shall be held at the Libingan ng mga Bayani which will include a wreath laying ceremony on the Tomb of the Unknown Soldiers.

The National Heroes Day is being celebrated every year to remind the Filipinos of the sacrifices and the selfless service the heroes have rendered the country and the people. The Philippine Army is one with the whole Filipino nation in honoring the heroes who died fighting for freedom, peace and democracy. May their sacrifices keep the flame of nationalism alive not just in every soldier but in all citizens as well. #
