SURVIVORS CRY FOR JUSTICE FOR THE KILLINGS IN NORTHERN SAMAR
Civilian survivors in the two treacherous attacks of the New People's
Army rebels in Las Navas, Northern Samar last December 8 and 14 cry for
justice as they ask where KARAPATAN and other human rights advocates
are, who did not even bother condemn the killings of these innocent
civilians.
Three were killed as a result of these two separate incidents. Of the
three, two were minors.
The statement made by Santiago Salas, spokesman of the NDF-EV, was
challenged by the survivors who experienced first hand the atrocities of
the NPA. According to the survivors, Salas made a total lie for making a
story far apart from what really transpired when soldiers and civilians
were murdered by the NPAs. The survivors revealed that despite begging
for their lives, the rebels kept on firing at them.
Contrary to what Salas claimed, the troops did not forcibly board the
motorized banca owned by Julito Casio. Casio, on behalf of the residents
of Brgy Poponton, was the one who sought assistance of the troops for
the conduct of Barangay Peace and Order Council (BPOC) meeting in
reaction to the threat posed by the NPA after they mercilessly murdered
a local resident in Torib Diaz and dumped his body in Hinaga river in
Poponton.
The NPA is known for their propaganda of deceiving and misleading the
people. Through this propaganda, the NPA's deprive the people of the
truth which is considered as a big offense. Now, more residents from
insurgent-infested areas are publicly denouncing their support for the
rebel group.
If KARAPATAN and the other human rights groups are truly concerned with
the rights of all, why are they not condemning the NPAs for this
dastardly act?
The Philippine Army, meanwhile, will further ensure the safety of the
people in the communities with the new anti-insurgency campaign plan. #
