Military Camps in SouthMin hoist Flag simultaneously for Independence Day Soldiers plant 20,000 trees, build schoolrooms
 


Camp Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City - Major military camps in Southern Mindanao simultaneously hoisted the Philippine Flag at exactly 7:00 AM Saturday in commemoration and celebration of the 112th independence of the country. A total of 20,187 seedlings of various species were also planted by soldiers region-wide following the event.

In Davao City, soldiers belonging to the Eastern Mindanao Command and 10th Infantry Division headed by Lt. Gen. Raymundo Ferrer and Maj. Gen. Carlos Holganza respectively, lined up in formation for the ceremony in Camp Felix Apolinario while a military contingent headed by the Assistant Division Commander of the Army’s 10th Infantry Division, Brig. Gen. Romeo Fajardo and Task Force Davao led by Col Oscar Lactao attended the Flag Raising at Rizal Park in downtown Davao.

In Gen Santos City, troops of 1002nd Infantry Brigade and Joint Task Force Gensan headed by Col. Rainier Cruz and Col. Glorioso Miranda, respectively, joined city officials in hoisting the flag at Gen. Santos’ shrine and participated in "walkaton" and Tae-bo hosted by the city government.

In Sarangani province, as part of the Independence Day celebrations troops of the 73rd Infantry Battalion led the Flag raising ceremony at the provincial capitol a day before the Independence day and initiated an Independence Day motorcade and peace caravan in Maasim town. Two makeshift schoolrooms were also being built in cooperation with Parents and Teachers Association and Barangay Defense Force as part of the celebration.

In Tupi town in South Cotabato, soldiers from the 27th Infantry Battalion joined town officials and other peoples’ organizations in celebrating independence by wreath laying and hoisting the flag followed by tree planting.

In Davao del Sur, troops of 39th Infantry Battalion joined the wreath laying and flag ceremony in the town of Sta. Cruz followed by a parade while its line companies simultaneously raised the flag in different parts of the province.

In Sto. Tomas town in Davao Del Norte, the 1003rd Infantry Brigade headed by Brig. Gen. Eduardo del Rosario together with the newly arrived 84th infantry Battalion made an early morning fun-run followed by hoisting of the flag. Tree Planting immediately followed together with a peace caravan. A friendship game between soldiers and the community was also made.

In Asuncion town in Davao del Norte, soldiers of 60th Infantry Battalion celebrated Independence Day by leading the flag raising and wreath laying; and inter-acting with the community immediately after hoisting the flag.

Still in Davao del Norte, troops of the 69th Infantry Battalion attended the commemoration of the Independence Day at Panabo City hall while its three companies held a simultaneous flag raising.
In Compostela Valley (ComVal) province, the 1001st Infantry Infantry Brigade headed by Col. Romeo Calizo planted a total of 5,000 seedlings in the village of San Roque in Maco town after the simultaneous flag raising.

In New Bataan town in ComVal, soldiers of the 66th Infantry Battalion spearheaded the wreath laying for the country’s heroes and joined the town people in raising the flag.

Still in ComVal, troops of the 25th Infantry Battalion joined the community and local officials of Monkayo town in commemorating the country’s independence in raising the flag and participating in community activities.

In the second district of Davao Oriental, soldiers of 28th Infantry Battalion conducted tree planting with a total of 200 Mahogany planted after hoisting the flag together with policemen, teachers and students then later joined a cultural program of the Local Goverment Unit in Lupon town.

In the first district, troops from the 67th Infantry Battalion joined town officials, teachers and people of Baganga town in raising the flag and wreath laying at Rizal's monument as the national hero was given full military honors by troops who fired "three volleys over grave". Soldiers also participated in a parade.

All-over Davao region and Socsargen Area, troops of the 72nd Cadre Battalion together with the maneuver units on the area planted a total of 20,187 assorted seedlings in partnership with the communities in different localities. Toys and clothes were also given by this army unit to less fortunate children in the village of Wangan in Calinan District in Davao City
