Commando Troopers Scores Anew

Carigara, Leyte - Combined elements of 19IB and 8MIB encounters an undetermined numbers of CPP-NPA at Brgy Tinaguban, Carigara, Leyte. At about 3:30 in the morning, combined elements from 19IB headed by 1LT TOMARONG and 1LT BABERA and troops from 82MICO while conducting a combat/strike operation at Brgy Tinaguban, Carigara, Leyte were fired upon by undermined number of Local Terrorist Group (LTG) believed to be members of Apoy Platoon, of LTG operating in Capoocan-Carigara-Jaro Complex.

The firefight lasted for about five (5) minutes, after which the NPA’s withdrew towards different directions. Recovered from the encounter site are one (1) M14 rifle loaded with eight (8) rds of ammunition and one backpack containing some personal belongings and several subversive documents of high intel value.

The encounter just proves the persistent report of Local Terrorist Group (LTGs) operating in Carigara Leyte which is the only municipality in Leyte that shows significant presence of the armed terrorists. It prevented the plan of the LTGs to conduct terror activities against the Army units conducting SOT in the area.

The successful recovery of the firearm was a result of the intelligence collaboration of different units and the support of the local chief executive in the area, particularly Mayor Annlie Apostol and Brgy Captain Santiago Hamtig of Tinaguban, Carigara, Leyte
