Naval Station Felix Apolinario, Panacan, Davao City – The troops of the 11th Forward Service Support Unit, Army Support Command, Philippine Army on June 21, 2020 celebrated Father’s Day at their 2-hectare adopted land dubbed as 11FSSU Adopted Carbon Forest Site. The Mapaglaan troopers led by their Acting Commanding Officer, LTC CLARENCE C GARIDDO QMS (GSC) PA planted fifty swamp adaptive tree species early morning of the said special day.

Fifty assorted seedlings of bakan, igyo and alum which are endemic in the area were carefully planted by the environment-loving soldiers of 11FSSU using the mounting method. Other personnel also cleared the site using bush cutters and jungle bolos. Ring weeding was conducted to all previously planted trees and were also cultivated for easier penetration of nutrients to promote faster growth. Due to the condition of the area, bamboo braces were also placed to aid the vertical development of surviving plants.

As fathers themselves who nurture their sons and daughters, the Mapaglaan troopers nurture the trees that they planted in order to survive despite the harsh conditions of the swampy area. 11FSSU will always do its share in ensuring that future generations can enjoy what we have today.
