Army reigns 2018 AFP-PNP-PCG Olympics

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila- The Philippine Army was hailed as the overall champion of the 2018 Armed Forces of the Philippines – Philippine National Police – Philippine Coast Guard (AFP-PNP-PCG) Olympics that culminated here today, Tuesday, October 30, 2018 at the Philippine Army Grandstand.

The month-long Olympics which started last September 27 is yearly being held to promote wellness and enhance camaraderie among the members of the security sector. The various competitions were conducted simultaneously at the different sports facilities of the General Headquarters, AFP, Philippine Army, Philippine Navy, Philippines Airforce, Philippine National Police, and the Philippine Coast Guard.

The over-all champion was determined by the total number of medals earned by each team during the competition. With 13 gold, 7 silver, and 2 bronze medals, the Army reigned as Champion. The Airforce got the 1st Place with 9 gold, 10 silver, and 2 bronze medals while the Navy got the 2nd Place with 1 gold, 3 silver, and 11 bronze medals.

Comprising the different events were Arnis, Badminton, Basketball, Boxing, Chess, Cycling, Dragon Boat, Football, Golf, Karatedo, Judo, Sepak Takraw, Shooting, Softball, Swimming, Table Tennis, Taekwondo, Tennis, Track and Field, Triathlon, Volleyball, Weightlifting, and Wrestling.

Among the events where the Army succeeded in winning golds are Arnis, Athletics, Basketball (Officers), Chess, Dragon Boat, Golf, Judo, Karatedo, Lawn Tennis, Sepak, Shooting, Triathlon, and Volleyball (Women).

The Army Commanding General, Major General Macairog S. Alberto who graced the closing ceremony was very much delighted and satisfied for the Team Army’s overall accomplishment. He lauded the team as well as the support elements for their wholehearted effort and promised to provide the essentials to help improve their feats.#
