Army teams up with Department of Agriculture for camp urban gardening

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army received agricultural kits from the Department of Agriculture to jumpstart the camp urban gardening within the Army Headquarters on Wednesday, May 6, 2020.

Said initiative aims to encourage Army personnel to plant vegetables inside the camp and at their homes as a way to make sustainable and adequate food supply, especially while the Enhanced Community Quarantine in Metro Manila is in effect.

The Army Personnel Management Center received the starter kits composed of vegetable seeds, garden soil, compost, poly bags, seedling, tray and IEC (Information, Education and Communication) materials. The Department of Agriculture’s Crop Research and Production Support Division also visited the camp’s community garden to assess the needs in the area.

“We are thankful to the Department of Agriculture for helping us pursue this project. Finding ways to generate sustainable food resources is always a welcome idea especially in our current situation,” said Army Spokesperson Col. Ramon P. Zagala.#
