Army installs new ‘Jungle Fighter’ Division Commander

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The 2nd Infantry ‘Jungle Fighter’ Division (2ID) welcomes its new commander in a change of command ceremony presided by the Commanding General, Philippine Army at Camp Capinpin, Tanay, Rizal, today, September 11, 2020.

Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana presided the turn-over of leadership from the outgoing Maj. Gen. Arnulfo Burgos Jr. to incoming Maj. Gen. Greg Almerol.

Previously serving as the Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence of the Armed Forces of the Philippines prior to his assumption, Maj. Gen. Almerol also headed the 903rd Infantry Brigade and the 60th Infantry Battlion. He is a member of Philippine Military Academy “Makatao” Class 1989 and holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration.

The CGPA commended the 2ID under Maj. Gen. Burgos for destroying enemy strongholds by neutralizing 508 enemy personalities, seizing 143 firearms and 63 anti-personnel mines, and clearing 64 affected barangays, as well as for pioneering Task Forces to End Local Communist Armed Conflict at the provincial, municipal, and barangay levels.

Lt. Gen. Sobejana then challenged the newly-installed 2ID commander to sustain the culture of excellence while balancing mission accomplishment and troop’s welfare and to continue building the foundations laid down by his predecessor for the continuance of securing peace and stability in the Southern Tagalog region.

“Jungle Fighters, ipagpatuloy natin ang tungkuling bantayan ang ating mamamayan sa Timog Katagalugan. Palakasin natin ang ating kapabilidad para hanapin, ipitin at tapusin ang kalaban, at ipagpatuloy ang panalo; pagtibayin ang pakikipag-ugnayan sa ating mga stakeholders; ipatupad ang mabuting pamamahala; at pagbutihin ang kapakanan ng ating hanay”, said Lt. Gen. Sobejana in his remarks. #
