Philippine Army installs new 3rd Infantry Division Commander

FORT BONIFACIO, Metro Manila – The Philippine Army installed Maj. Gen. Benedict M. Arevalo as the new commander of the 3rd Infantry “Spearhead” Division in a Change of Command Ceremony today, September 21, 2021, at Camp Gen. Macario B. Peralta Jr., Jamindan, Capiz.

The Commanding General, Philippine Army (CGPA) Lt. Gen. Andres C. Centino presided over the ceremony as Brig. Gen. Noel T. Baluyan relinquished his position to the new commander.

Before his assumption, Maj. Gen. Arevalo served as the AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil-Military Operations (J7) in Camp Aguinaldo, Quezon City. He also led the 303rd Infantry “Brown Eagle” Brigade in Murcia, Negros Occidental, and the 301st Infantry “Bayanihan” Brigade in Dingle, Iloilo. He is a member of the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis Lahi” Class of 1990.

On the other hand, Brig. Gen. Baluyan, who previously served as 3ID’s Acting Commander, will assume as the Assistant Division Commander of the same unit. He also held key positions such as commander of the 302nd Infantry “Achiever” Brigade in Tanjay, Negros Oriental, and Task Group Cebu. Brig. Gen. Baluyan is also a member of “Bigkis Lahi” Class of 1990. He has a Master in Public Administration degree from UP Diliman and a Master in Public Management degree from the Development Academy of the Philippines.
