Major General Ramiro Rey A Manuel AFP is currently the Commander of the Armed Forces of the Philippines Special Operations Command (AFP SOCOM). He started his career as a military officer when he graduated from the Philippine Military Academy in 1987. Subsequently, he pursues his passion for learning wherein he was able to finish his Master’s degree in Public Administration at the Philippine Christian University in 2006. He was also able to complete various studies on Human Resource Management in Asian Institute of Management; Corporate Governance and Professional Directors program in the Institute of Corporate Directors.

            Major General Rey spent the first ten years of his military service in Mindanao from 1987 to 1997 being a Platoon Leader to a Company Commander and Staff Officer of the 36th Infantry (Valor) Battalion (36IB). He was then assigned with the Intelligence family of the 4th Infantry Division, Philippine Army (4ID, PA) where he was given various capacities until July of 1997. These assignments gave him the skills he now possesses as a seasoned and brilliant military officer. In 1997, he was transferred to Metro Manila and held staff positions both in General Headquarters and Headquarters Philippine Army. He then

served as Battalion Commander twice, as Battalion Commander of the 1st Special Forces Battalion covering the Province of Quezon in Southern Luzon and as Battalion Commander of the Security and Escort Battalion of the Philippine Army. He also served as the Executive Assistant to the Commanding General, Philippine Army before he was designated as the Assistant Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations of PA.

            With said experience and exposure in the different fields of assignment, he was selected to head the Special Forces Regiment Airborne of the Philippine Army and designated as the Joint Task Force Ranao Commander. During his Marawi stint, he effectively manages the unit’s task of securing the controlled area of Marawi city and aided in the immediate normalization of the whole area of conflict. He was one of the leaders who became instrumental to the soldiers in the field that gave them inspiration and will fight thereby resulted in the success of the operation and liberation of Marawi. Being a seasoned military officer and public servant, he has also gained numerous awards and recognitions both from military and civilian sectors.
