Army bids FVR farewell

The Philippine Army, joined the Armed Forces of the Philippines and the Philippine National Police, in according to a state funeral and inurnment ceremony for the 12th President and Commander in Chief Fidel Valdez Ramos at the Heritage Park and Libingan ng mga Bayani, Taguig City on August 9, 2022.
 
Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., joined the AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Bartolome Vicente O Bacarro and the AFP top brass during the state funeral for FVR. The Army Chief received President Marcos at the inurnment site of the late commander-in-chief.
 
The military accorded the former president, who was fondly called FVR by many, a two-part state funeral. A battalion-sized contingent of honor guards accorded departure honors for the cremains of the late president from the Heritage Park where he was laid in state for five days. The military then accorded the late commander in full military honors in front of the Libingan ng mga Bayani gate highlighted by a 21-gun salute and petal drop from the Philippine Air Force’s two Blackhawk choppers. A solemn funeral procession to the gravesite followed by another petal drop, 21-gun salute, turning over of the flag, and entombment rite capped the state funeral.
 
The former president was laid in the sector of the Libingan ng mga Bayani dedicated to late presidents. President and commander-in-chief Ferdinand Marcos, Jr., attended the state funeral and stood beside Mrs. Ramos during the inurnment ceremony. The military band as a final farewell to the former commander in chief played a medley of his favorite songs.
