Army Signal Regiment welcomes new commander

The Army Signal Regiment (ASR) welcomed its new commander in a Change of Command Ceremony presided at the ASR Headquarters in Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on August 10, 2022.
 
Col. Alejandro J. Papa took the helm of the regiment from acting regiment commander Col. Joey T. Fontiveros in the turnover ceremony presided by newly installed Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo who represented Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr.
 
Col. Papa belongs to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Sambisig” Class of 1991. He holds a Master in National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines and a Master in Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines.
 
Col. Papa held key signal and cyber posts throughout his career. He served as executive officer of the Office of the Deputy Chief of Staff for Communication, Electronics and Information Systems, Armed Forces of the Philippines (OJ6, AFP); Deputy Assistant Chief of Staff for Command and Control, Communications and Cyber Systems, Philippine Army (OG6, PA); and ASR Chief of Staff.
 
Meanwhile, Col. Fontiveros belongs to the PMA “Bantay Laya” Class of 1994. He likewise took on key signal and cyber positions such as a commanding officer of the Cyber Battalion, ASR; commanding officer of the 3rd Signal Battalion, ASR; and Inspector General, ASR. He will return to his previous post as assistant regiment commander, ASR.
 
“Our cyber and signal warriors play a crucial role in securing and safeguarding both our cyber and signal systems, which are reflected in the significant contributions of the regiment’s lineage of commanders,” Maj. Gen. Ligayo said in his keynote remarks.
 
“With you at the helm, I am certain that Team ASR will further advance and contribute to our Command and Control Communications, and Cyber Systems (C4S) capabilities, which are essential to our army decision-makers and leaders on the ground,” Maj. Gen. Ligayo added in his remarks on behalf of Lt. Gen. Brawner.
