Philippine Army installs new Kampilan Division Commander

The Philippine Army’s 6th Infantry “Kampilan” Division welcomed its new commander in a change of command ceremony presided by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., at Camp Brig. Gen. Gonzalo Siongco, Barangay Awang, Datu Odin Sinsuat, Maguindanao on August 11, 2022.

Acting “Kampilan” Division Commander Maj. Gen. Roberto S. Capulong turned over the division's leadership to Maj. Gen. Roy M. Galido who served as the Army Inspector General from September 2021 to August 2022.

Maj. Gen. Galido also concurrently served as Army Vice Commander and Army Chief of Staff in acting capacities prior to his designation as commander of the Kampilan Division whose area of operations covers Central and South Mindanao. Maj. Gen. Galido is a full-blooded Kampilan trooper. He led the 601st Brigade, 6ID as its Brigade Commander. Moreover, he held various key positions in the 38th Infantry Battalion, 40th Infantry Battalion, and Task Group Bigkis Lahi, 6ID.

Maj. Gen. Galido, like his predecessor, belongs to the Philippine Military Academy “Bigkis Lahi” Class of 1990. He holds three Master’s degrees: Management, Information Technology from the University of New South Wales in Australia, and Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines. His expertise covers the fields of combat operations, Command, Control, Communications & Cyber Systems (C4s), and financial management.

Meanwhile, Maj. Gen. Capulong will return to his post as the Army Chief of Staff. It can be recalled that he took the helm of 6ID on May 2022 upon the retirement of then 6ID commander Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy.
Lt. Gen. Brawner, in his keynote address, called on Kampilan troopers to continue safeguarding communities in Central and Southern Mindanao. He likewise lauded 6ID for its key role in facilitating the historic establishment of the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region of Muslim Mindanao and for its prompt pandemic response.

“Maj. Gen. Capulong has supervised the conduct of purposive focused military operations against local and communist terrorist groups, resulting in the neutralization of key enemy personalities. Further, he facilitated the voluntary surrender of former rebels,” the Army Chief said in his remarks.

“To Maj. Gen. Galido, continue to pursue the foundations laid down by the past Kampilan commanders, formulate decisive operational policies and plans, and fulfill Team 6ID’s mandate of fostering stability and development in your area of responsibility,” Lt. Gen. Brawner concluded.
