Army spouses in Cebu take part in behavioral health and well-being forum

Around 150 Philippine Army spouses learned lessons on effectively handling stress amidst the pandemic during the Behavioral Health Awareness Program for Army Spouses held at the Marco Polo Hotel in Cebu City on August 27, 2022.

Mrs. Melody Mariele V. Brawner, spouse of Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., and adviser of the Philippine Army Officers' Ladies Club, Inc., conceptualized and spearheaded the program which is anchored on the theme "Every Family Counts."

“We are gathered here to provide a thorough understanding of mental health awareness. This exemplifies our responsibilities as wives and mothers in providing the best support for our loved ones and ensuring that no one from our Army family will be left behind in this journey,” Mrs. Brawner said in her speech.

Three experts shared mental health and well-being lessons and insights that Army spouses could use to effectively deal with daily stress.

Nurse and psychologist Mr. Michael Jimenez, who works with the Department of Health’s mental health gap action program, tackled addressing the social and emotional needs of children and strengthening familial values and relationships during the pandemic; Maj. Christine de Jesus of the Army General Hospital (AGH) shared advice on dealing with anxiety; and AGH Chief Physical Therapist Mr. Christopher Rey Cruz shared relaxation tips to manage stress.

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr., meanwhile, said in his remarks that the said program is in line with his thrust to focus on ensuring the physical and mental health of soldiers, the Army’s most important resource, as well as their families.
