New acting HHSG chief assumes post

The Philippine Army’s Headquarters and Headquarters Support Group (HHSG) welcomed its new acting commander in a change of command and retirement ceremony presided by Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., at the Headquarters Philippine Army Grandstand, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on September 4, 2022.
 
HHSG deputy commander Col. Napoleon Z. De Vera took the helm of HHSG in an acting capacity from Brig. Gen. Rosalio G. Pompa who will hang his uniform for the last time after a military career spanning more than 36 years.
 
Col. Napoleon has served as HHSG deputy commander since September 2019. He also held key staff posts at the 7th Infantry Division and 8th Infantry Division throughout his military service. Col. Napoleon belongs to the Philippine Military Academy (PMA) “Sambisig” Class of 1991. He holds two Master’s degrees: National Security Administration from the National Defense College of the Philippines and Public Management from the Development Academy of the Philippines.
 
Meanwhile, Brig. Gen. Pompa served as the Chief of Staff of the 2nd Infantry “Jungle Fighter” Division prior to his assumption as the 40th commander of HHSG. He also served as Chief of the Governance and Strategy Management Office of 2ID; and Commanding Officer of the 191st Military Police Battalion, HHSG. Brig. Gen. Pompa is a member of PMA “Bigkis Lahi” Class of 1990 with a Master’s in Management Major in Public Administration from the Philippine Christian University.
 
Lt. Gen. Brawner, in his keynote speech, lauded Brig. Gen Pompa for taking charge of HHSG in securing the Army’s main headquarters as well as maintaining peace and orderliness in the camp. The Army Chief also commended Brig. Gen. Pompa for his crucial role in the improvement of base facilities and intensified base security services especially during the height of the implementation of Covid-19 restrictions.
 
“To Brig. Gen. Pompa, we wish you all the best as you take on another life-challenging transition. Indeed, it is an honor to have served with you and it is my fervent wish that you spend more fruitful years outside the AFP,” Lt. Gen. Brawner said in his keynote address.
 
“To Col. De Vera, I urge you to continue giving your best effort with the same dedication and passion. We expect nothing but the best as you bring new perspective and vigor to the organization,” the Army Chief remarked.
