Army caps month-long futsal clinic for Army kids

Army Vice Commander Maj. Gen. Camilo Z. Ligayo led the awarding ceremony for Army dependents aged 7 to 15 years old who completed the month-long futsal clinic at the Philippine Army Gymnasium, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on September 25, 2022.

The Army Vice Commander said the activity instilled sportsmanship and camaraderie among the young athletes on top of developing and honing their futsal skills.

The month-long futsal clinic, facilitated by soldier-athletes from the Special Service Center, culminated in a final game at the Philippine Army Officers Village Park and the Philippine Army Gymnasium. Maj. Gen. Ligayo led the awarding and recognition for the young futsal athletes at the Philippine Army Gymnasium.

Futsal started in 1930 when Mr. Juan Carlos Ceriani, a teacher based in Montevideo, Uruguay, created a version of indoor football for recreation. Mr. Ceriani incorporated principles of football, basketball, water polo and handball in crafting the futsal rule book.
