The Philippine Army joins the 126th commemoration of Rizal's martyrdom

The Philippine Army joined the nation in commemorating the 126th martyrdom anniversary of Dr. Jose P. Rizal in a flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony at the Rizal National Monument, Rizal Park, Manila on December 30, 2022.
The Philippine Army's Security and Escort Battalion joined the AFP-wide contingent in rendering ceremonial honors during the ceremony led by President and Commander-in-Chief Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos, Jr.
The President together with the First Family raised the Philippine flag during the ceremony. The President was then joined by military host, AFP Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Vicente Bartolome Bacarro in the wreath-laying rite at the Rizal Monument. National Historical Commission of the Philippines Chair Dr. Rene R. Escalante, Rizal Day Technical Working Committee members, diplomatic corps members, government officials, and Rizal’s descendants also graced this year's Rizal Day ceremony anchored on the theme, “Rizal: Alaalang Iningatan, Yaman Ngayon ng Bayan."
Considered as the Philippine National Hero, Rizal was only 35 years old when he was executed by the Spanish colonial government at the old Bagumbayan which is now Rizal Park.
