Army swimmers reap medals in Antipolo City tourney

The Philippine Army swimming team reaped 13 medals--including eight golds--in the Federation of School Sports Association of the Philippines (FESSAP) Aquatics Invitational Swim Meet held at the Bosay Resort Aquatic Pool in Antipolo City, Rizal on January 28, 2023.
 
Four Army swimmers proved their prowess in the pool as they scooped up medals in various categories. Sgt. Gil Martin Gonzales bagged the gold in the 100-meter men’s breaststroke and 200-meter medley relay; Private Joshua Junsay snagged three gold medals in the 100-meter men’s butterfly, 200-meter men’s freestyle, and 200-meter medley relay, and two bronze medals in the 100-meter men’s breaststroke and 100-meter men’s backstroke; Private Christian Dimaculangan bagged two gold medals in the 100-meter men’s backstroke and 200-meter men’s medley relay and a silver medal in the 100-meter men’s freestyle; and Private Vergil Barong clinched the gold medal in the 200-meter medley relay and two silver medals in the 100-meter men’s butterfly and 100-meter men’s backstroke.
 
The said tourney served as the qualifier for the International University Sports Federations Universiade School Summer Games that will be held in Chengdu, China in collaboration with the Federation of School Sports Associations of the Philippines.
 
Special Service Center (SSC) Director Col. John Oliver F. Gabun lauded the Army swimmers for bannering the Army’s brand of excellence in the local swimming sporting scene. “Kudos on your latest victory. Your feat shows that excellence is the result of always striving to do better," the SSC Chief remarked.
