Philippine Army formally unveils 2040 Army Transformation Roadmap

Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner, Jr., and Army Governance and Strategy Management Office (AGSMO) Chief Colonel Rodrigo P. Magallanes unveiled the Army Transformation Roadmap (ATR) 2040 after the Philippine Army’s 126th Founding Anniversary Simultaneous Flag-Raising Ceremony at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on March 22, 2023.

The Philippine Army—with the help of its partners and stakeholders—conducted a “strategy refresh” in May last year with the end view of becoming a world-class, multi-mission ready and cross-domain capable ground force by the year 2040. This new vision is anchored on the Philippine Army’s organizational and capability development plans, the AFP modernization initiatives, and the Philippine Development Plan “Ambisyon Natin 2040.”

It can be recalled that the first iteration of ATR is divided into three basecamps from 2010 to 2028. The ATR laid out strategic directions aimed at transforming the Philippine Army into a world-class ground force that is a source of national pride.
