Army reaffirms commitment to human rights

The Philippine Army reaffirmed its commitment to the protection and promotion of human rights during the flag-raising ceremony that commenced the week-long 2023 National Human Rights Consciousness Week (NHRCW) at the Headquarters Philippine Army, Fort Bonifacio, Metro Manila on December 4, 2023.
 
The nationwide activity was conducted in line with Republic Act No. 9201, also known as the "National Human Rights Consciousness Week Act of 2002", which aims to bring awareness to the people of "their basic human rights in relation to the functions and services offered by these government instrumentalities."
 
"As members of the Philippine Army, it is our solemn duty to safeguard and uphold these rights for all our fellow Filipinos. We have done this throughout history, standing undaunted as the protector of our nation's values and principles," Army Chief of Staff Maj. Gen. Potenciano C. Camba said on behalf of Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Roy M. Galido. Meanwhile, Army Vice Commander Brig. Gen. Leodevic B. Guinid read the remarks of AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. that is anchored on the theme "Dignidad, Kalayaan, at Katarungan Para Sa Lahat."
 
"It is not enough to pay lip service to human rights; we must live and breathe these values in our daily actions. We must strive to be models of respect, fairness, and integrity," Maj. Gen. Camba added.
