JTG Tabang, Marawi LGU launch “Food for Peace”

“Food for Peace” aims to deliver freshly cooked food to the internally displaced people (IDPs) being housed in the different municipalities adjacent to Marawi City after they evaded the terrorist Maute at the start of the siege.

Around 400 individuals in the Al-Qayriya Madrasah evacuation center in barangay Poblacion West, Balo-i benefited as the program kicked-off yesterday.

Colonel Thomas Sedano, commander of the Joint Task Group Tabang said that the program was made possible with the full support of the Marawi City LGU.

He further said that the mobile kitchen will be busy visiting different evacuation centers not just to serve freshly cooked food but also to deliver the message of peace, thus the project was dubbed “Food for Peace”.

Meanwhile, Mayor Majul Gandamra was very happy to see his constituents in a safe condition.

He inspired his constituents to patiently wait until such time that Marawi City is freed from the terror of the Maute group.

He also said that, he himself would want to go back to the city the soonest possible time, but because of the eminent threat that still posed to the city, he couldn’t help but wait.

JTG Tabang also conducted film-showing and free haircut to the IDPs housed in Al-Qayriya Madrasah evacuation center.

The LGU Marawi also brought along their mobile dental clinic for free dental consultation and tooth extraction.

JTG Tabang and LGU Marawi also facilitated fun games for the children not just to entertain them but also to help them to ease and cure the trauma caused by the terrorist attack in Marawi.

Colonel Sedano, Mayor Gandamra, and all members of the JTG Tabang and LGU Marawi joined the IDPs in partaking the lunch prepared for them.

The program was concluded with balloons flown in the air with the hope of ending the conflict and attain the peace soon.
