Army girds for onslaught of Super Typhoon Egay

The Philippine Army—through its 5th Infantry Division (5ID) whose area of responsibility covers Northern Luzon, —prepared humanitarian assistance and disaster-response (HADR) teams for Super Typhoon “Egay” which is pummeling towards the Babuyan Islands on July 26, 2023.

The 98th Infantry Battalion of 5ID along with the Local Government Unit of Conner, Apayao, and Office of the Civil Defense, prepositioned relief goods that will be distributed to the victims of Egay. Meanwhile, the 17th Infantry Battalion, the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP), and the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction Management Office (PDRRMO) of Cagayan collaborated to provide security and manpower assistance to the clearing of roads and debris after Egay’s devastation. Likewise, the troops of 17IB, the Philippine National Police (PNP), and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) also delivered food packs to all affected families in the area.

Chief of Staff, Armed Forces of the Philippines and Commanding General, Philippine Army Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. assured the operational readiness of the Army’s HADR teams in assisting Filipinos in calamity-stricken communities. “Rest assured, your Philippine Army—in fulfillment of our oath to serve the people and secure the land— is always ready to lend a helping hand to our kababayans in calamity-stricken areas,” the CSAFP remarked.
