Army joins the 125th Philippine Independence and Nationhood wreath-laying rites

The Philippine Army joined the simultaneous flag-raising and wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood with President and Commander-in-Chief Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. gracing the ceremony at the Quirino Grandstand, Rizal Park, Ermita, Manila on June 12, 2023.

This year's Independence Day celebration is anchored on the theme “Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan” (Freedom, Future, History). “The heroes of our liberation would be proud to know that we have thrown off the ‘ominous yoke of domination’; never again to be subservient to any external force that directs or determines our destiny,” President Marcos Jr. highlighted during the 125th anniversary.

Meanwhile, Army Commanding General Lt. Gen. Romeo S. Brawner Jr. said in a statement that the celebration of the Philippine Independence Day reminds soldiers of the struggles and triumphs that have shaped the nation. “Our forefathers braved the hardships, fought against oppression, and laid down their lives so that future generations could enjoy the fruits of liberty, we owe them an eternal debt of gratitude,” the Army Chief said.

“Together let us build a peaceful, progressive Philippines – a nation that reflects the dreams and aspirations of our heroes, a nation worthy of all that we celebrate and honor today,” Lt. Gen. Brawner said.
